In other words, he was doing what he was sent into the world to do.

Cooper does not represent any particular person, but was meant as a composite character representing anyone who labors on a mission given them by God.Adrian Larsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17173995703995901609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8665085267750808287.post-83170657927468694982018-12-12T12:20:43.603-07:002018-12-12T12:20:43.603-07:00Haha... Quien sabe? I suppose the Latin and Oregonian town/business/venture have some meaning that for me currently pass overhead.
Mjensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18413555610140837902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8665085267750808287.post-65936123012195224632018-12-06T17:48:01.624-07:002018-12-06T17:48:01.624-07:00Yet another delightful reminder and meditation on ...Yet another delightful reminder and meditation on the truth that Zion will manifest, not through some clever new program from a corporate hierarchy, but through a small group of willing souls willing to learn how to be more godly. In a godless world it’s a curious, unlikely proposition, requiring faith and charity. It will require believers to be vilified—both by sarcastic outside folks and sarcastic inside folks. Where did all the sarcasm come from?

How can thoughtful folks of any persuasion claim moral enlightenment in the hot, frothy acid of sarcasm? No, God’s way is a world without envy, content in Pratum mowing the lawns and us chasing whatever we’re good at chasing. Thank you to everyone who has felt inclined to step forward and contribute in even the slightest way. I love you. Let’s build a temple. One thought that came to mind as I read about Cooper and his grass mowing errand from the Lord and all corrolaries to our own recent experiences, was in regards to how to deal with conflicting errands.

In keeping with your analogy, what should my response be toward Cooper if I had been allowing my lawn to grow in obedience to a directive I feel the Lord had given me to pasture my neighbors cattle as a service to them. Then I walk out one morning and see there is no longer feed for them because it has all been mowed down and removed by someone else who claims they had received a different directive from God regarding the use of my lawn? Obviously charity toward Cooper should be extended because he was unaware of my personal dealings with God, but how do we deal with the issue of the conflict itself? In other words, what if one man's action in response to their personal revelation directly opposed another man's action in response to his own personal revelation?

I have seen this scenario play out several times in this movement and have no good answers other than to throw a cloak of charity over it all hope God is only using the apparent chaos to see who can live in peace with who. But I also think there have been many thoughts and opinions expressed in the movement over various issues not necessarily out of comparison or envy per se, but rather as a result of trying to give strict heed and diligence to the word of the Lord.

This observation, however does not diminish the overall message of this post Adrian and the point is well taken, timely and much appreciated. I just wanted to add a couple of my own tangential thoughts.

Jim O'Rullianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16939646566364679030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8665085267750808287.post-30772802004277090222018-12-05T12:12:03.355-07:002018-12-05T12:12:03.355-07:00An 80-year-old in our LDS ward asked my friend to ...An 80-year-old in our LDS ward asked my friend to mow his lawn, which he did. That friend was later called into the bishop's office and scolded for doing that because the bishop is over all welfare in the ward and so his permission was required! I won't quote my friend's reply to the bishop because I don't use that kind of language, but he made it clear that the bishop is NOT over all good deeds!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08776985578466765316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8665085267750808287.post-64869839104016449342018-12-05T10:20:39.731-07:002018-12-05T10:20:39.731-07:00I have long pondered how Denver Snuffer, or Joseph...I have long pondered how Denver Snuffer, or Joseph Smith, or Moses, or any true meessenger could possibly avoid being lifted up on a pedestal by a community of believers and thus avoid being made an object of idolatry.

The answer is that the messenger himself is powerless. In other words, there is nothing he can do, there is no depth of humility he can descend to eschew the misplaced adoration of others.

He is actually in a catch-22 position. As soon as he declares what has been commanded of him by the Lord, that very act of obedience virtually guarantees the outcome of unwanted idolatry, and unwarranted criticism and ridicule just for humbly doing the Lord's will.

The only remedy is for the people themselves to handle it themselves. A prophet cannot force people to not be envious. Thank you Adrian and Tausha for the teaching and wisdom you continue to share with us--it is needed and appreciated. I add my voice to Roy Moore's, giving thanks to all who have labored, on the Lord's errand, in blessing us with conferences, teachings, scriptures, etc. I appreciate your labors! Without your examples and fellowship, my transition from an authoritarian culture of strongmen threatening to cancel my salvation for stirring-the-pot, to a daring journey of truth seeking and finding, will be so much more the daunting and lonely. Perhaps, in this new environment, my exuberance to speak my mind without fear has become excessive, perhaps I need to check myself, realizing it takes patience to unprogram generations of false teachings and traditions; please forgive me of my sins that so easily beset me. Thank you, Cooper(s), for your companionship and invitation to walk with you.Roy Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12756012554390508041noreply@blogger.com
